With custom becoming easier and more affordable these days, it’s no surprise that custom has started to make its stamp on weddings. From quality and options to customer support and expertise – I DEUX prides itself on giving men an elevated level of selection and service for their wedding day. But custom loves company…and while we’re all about making the groom something to talk about, we also know that for many of you, your big day isn’t complete without a dashing bride in a gorgeous gown. So when it comes to customizing the bride, we reached out to our friends at Anomalie to get the scoop!
How did Anomalie start?
Our bad-ass CEO & Co-Founder, Leslie Voorhees Means got engaged and was looking for a very specific, long-sleeved dress for her winter wedding. Just like many of us when starting to shop for wedding dresses, she was underwhelmed by the limited selection of styles in boutiques. She was also surprised at how ridiculously expensive dresses were. Previously working overseas for both Nike and Apple, she decided to go directly to the source of most of the world’s wedding dresses, Guangzhou, China to customize her own dress for much cheaper. She did it! It’s beautifully displayed in our office as the very first Anomalie dress. A little over two years later, Anomalie is doing exactly this for thousands of brides!
Quickest and easiest way to describe the Anomalie process…
The bride shares photos of her dream dress with our stylists. They work together to design EXACTLY what she wants. The bride then approves all of the design details and sends in her measurements. Once we get that confirmation, we get started on the dress!
Why should brides-to-be make their dress with you rather than buy it at a traditional boutique?
We’re 100% #PROBRIDE meaning we have the bride’s interest at heart! If a bride finds a dress that she absolutely loves in the store, then she should go for it! Just like with your spouse, when you know, you know! However if it’s not EXACTLY what you want - if there are pieces of the dress that you’d like to add or take away - let’s chat!
On top of this, we find there are a lot of brides who feel left out of the traditional bridal experience, whether that be due to their size, skin tone, race, sexual orientation, etc. At Anomalie, rest assured, each dress is as unique as the bride wearing it.
Can you work with brides that are super specific on a vision for their dress as well as brides who aren’t as sure of what they want?
We get brides on both ends of the spectrum. However, we HAVE noticed that brides know more than they give themselves credit for! Our stylists make sure to ask all the right questions to help filter through all of her ideas, and put it together into one dress.
What is your favorite part about working with brides to customize their wedding day look?
At the office, we all freak out whenever new bride photos come in! (We receive so many bride photos on the daily, so image an entire office squealing multiple times a day!) The teams work with their brides for over 7 months, and to see the finished product is beyond rewarding. Even though we work with beautiful dresses all the time, seeing how happy and beautiful the bride is on her big day NEVER loses its magic.
We love a good 2nd Impression – tell us about some of the stand out second looks you’ve created with brides?
We worked with singer/songwriter Liz Mace on her reception dress! It was a midi length, fitted dress covered in lace which was very different from her structured, ceremony ball gown. Many brides opt for a shorter dress for the reception, as it’s easier to dance and move around in. She looked absolutely beautiful! Check it out HERE!
For brides who don’t necessarily want two separate dresses, a custom overskirt is a great option! If you’ve been on Pinterest, you’ve probably seen our bride Reny! She had a full overskirt for her ceremony and a slimmer dress underneath for the party. It’s a great way to change your look without ACTUALLY changing your look - just like how I DEUX prints are completely concealed until you take off your jacket!
Any ideas for coordinating the bride and groom’s custom looks?
If your groom will be rocking a specific color, we offer custom embroidery that can be done on your dress in the same color! This can be both on the outside of the dress, or as a hidden message on the inside. People get names, dates, and even quotes embroidered dedicated to their beauxs!
As custom enthusiasts – what will you customize next?
We’re currently keeping with custom wedding dresses and semi-custom veils, but stay tuned for some new projects that we’re working on! We’re working on a new app that will allow brides to “build the dress” right on her phone! Custom wedding dresses will become easier and easier to create.
